After 50 some I’ve finally come full circle. When I was a kid I was a rock picker. My head was always down as I searched for pretty rocks.
Time passed - I went to college and studied fine arts, with intentions of going on to become a fashion designer. In order to support myself while continuing my education/career development I logically (or not) got a job doing – accounting (I was good at it – go figure…) - from there I got involved with computers and network administration. All in all it’s been a good career, but I just can’t shake the design bug. Over the years, as an outlet for my persistent creative streak, I found myself dabbling in interior design, drawing, music, and digital photography & image editing – none very successfully.
One summer, after buying a lovely gemstone chip necklace at a small town craft fair, I had an allergic reaction to the clasp and need to have it replaced. I went into a local bead store to have a better quality clasp put on the necklace. While waiting and talking to some folks, I decided I should try doing this jewelry making thing myself.
That got me here. I work with semi-precious gemstones, lab created gemstones, fine silver, pearls & shells, fine crystals, and occasionally glass. I insist on “better or best” quality in the materials I use. And, I always use high quality silver or gold-filled findings and clasps (if I don’t I can’t wear my own jewelry – and I need to advertise).
I really enjoy this, and I’m pretty good at it – or so I’ve been told. And I love finding and working with all the pretty rocks.
